SCENAR is very different from electro-therapy instruments such as Tens or Electro-acupuncture.  Tens units are mainly used to provide relief from pain.  Electro-acupuncture instruments have a broader range of application but they generally lack any kind of bio-feedback capability.  Only SCENAR combines energy measuring functions with real-time feedback and constant, automatic adjustment to deliver just the right type and amount of therapy to the body.

The SCENAR instrument employs highly sophisticated computer software that enables it to automatically sense and measure the electrical activity of the body (skin impedance) and it then delivers a very carefully measured amount of complex electrical waveforms and frequencies directly to the skin in order to help correct imbalances.  The therapy pulses have also been designed to contain numerous random features to prevent the body from becoming too used to the therapy - resulting in improved healing responsiveness. The SCENAR instrument may also be used in manual mode where there is complete control over all output parameters.

As the electrical therapy impulses are designed to mimic the natural electrical discharges of the nervous system, in response the brain and body tend to generate specific neuro-peptides, the key chemicals used by the body to heal itself.  Proper communication between the brain and the affected part is thus facilitated and rapid healing may then be possible. As described by one of the developers, SCENAR evolves a new signal pattern for the disordered tissues, as the machine literally enters into an information dialog with the body. New, positive frequencies and energy patterns are established, which in turn are a part of fresh SCENAR input signals, to be further modified and so on. This output pattern tends to equal new input pattern is similar to the way that fractals are generated. On the premise that disease signals are generally fixed and "unnatural", anything which breaks down that kind of existing order should be capable of assisting in the restoration of normal equilibrium.
